The Strategy of Deploying Cloud in Your Company

Types of Cloud Computing

Today many companies switch to cloud computing. Market of cloud computing is growing very fast. Per Right Scale 2019 state of the cloud report from Flexera 84% of enterprises have a multi-cloud strategy. 94% of respondents use clouds. Public cloud adoption is 72 percent. Companies plan to spend 24% more on public cloud. That is happening because clouds are easy to install, simple to deploy and cost effective. Who wouldn’t want the solution which can improve infrastructure process with the lower price? Instead of spending money and time to on-premises hardware and IT department you can use clouds.

There are three types of cloud computing:

– Public cloud

– Private cloud

– Hybrid cloud

Public Cloud

Public cloud applies when you use third party hardware and rely on Internet to deploy your infrastructure. You share space with other participants and here is the risk of your data being stolen, used or simply scanned. To back up data, very often software providers duplicate your data across two-three servers for security purposes. In short, data of the companies is under control of another vendor not theirs. Although cost is significantly reduced, if you have sensitive information and care about privacy the most, public cloud wouldn’t work for you.

Private Cloud

Private cloud is a better option in terms of privacy. Private cloud allows you to use your own device which you do not own, but you are managing and controlling it without any parties being involved. In that way you can implement any software and deploy your own processes.

Hybrid Clouds

Hybrid clouds are combination of public clouds, private clouds and on-premise infrastructure with dedicated IT department. That way companies can differentiate the risk and build infrastructure efficiently.

Conservative and pragmatic business owners still rely on physical workplace, when innovators and technology enthusiast are ready to deploy clouds in order to reduce operating cost and improve efficiency.

How it Started

Word cloud came into the place to combine all definitions to make it sound simple. Cloud is basically an abstraction of a lot of hardware and software connected with each other. Existing needs have not been changed as behind the scene offices have been still relaying on huge servers’ rooms. On premises – hardware and software were deployed and managed by people. Many companies still use it.

This is when Amazon came into the place of sharing spaces. Prospect was to reduce the cost of having servers and software as it was very expensive to manage. Amazon offered to deploy software and hardware in the cloud and available for use to any company upon request.

What you lose with public cloud computing is the customization of application. For example, insurance companies must have their own software to deploy on premises offering algorithm to determine the risk. But HR function, Payroll and Accounting functions can be shared with public cloud applications – meaning infrastructure in a public domain accessible to everyone with set of functionalities. You cannot change that functionality. You adopt to the same process. That is a competitive advantage to build your own application, that is why on premises hardware still exists.

But you cannot beat the convenience of having a server and software on a click of the button.

Citrix, Microsoft decided to come into the place with one solution of using private clouds. The simplicity of public cloud but security of on premises infrastructure has been deployed in private clouds. That way private cloud came into the place. Imagine private cloud as renting the office in the big office building with having doors locked and security alarms on.

What is the Strategy of Using Cloud?

The questions: How to deploy clouds on your environment efficiently and without harm to privacy of the company, what are the main things you should consider that are important to every CIO.

First, you need to identify the type of the cloud you would need based on factors described in the above including number of locations, security level, application development.

Second, find a provider which can offer good quality cloud with vigorous communication network, applying all certifications of compliance, high level of security physical and working, and accessible infrastructure. Provider should also meet the location requirement, as you would want your server to be not far from your location.

Once you choose good quality cloud you start deploying it to the company.

How to manage data center and network at your company by deploying of private cloud? Establish the asset management and RMA process. It is important as the reliability of deployment depends on it. Your cloud venders should bring value to your operational process, think what value you can attract with the new system. Vendor should provide full service of deployment a cloud in your company, so you do not have to worry about everything.

It is important to identify the priorities of deploying private clouds, why you chose it and going through the whole strategy. If the goal is to keep your data private, then the whole operational process should be secure and without any leaks. By deploying SAAS software you will allow other companies share your data with public clouds, which can be against of the strategy.

It is also important to develop private and secure way of synchronization of all your data between the clouds. Direct device to device way of data synchronization is considered the most reliable. That way you can be sure that data is never stored anywhere. All data transfers should be encrypted and secured.
